This is the view from the Upper Landing public pier and it quiet and peaceful when the temperature reaches freezing. It was 28 degrees when I finished this last painging of the season with gloves on.

This public dock is a quiet place at five in the morning before the One on the First National Bank building lights up for the day. A young fisherman showed me a picture of a 45 pound catfish that he caught there. He told me the record is 75 pounds

It was a misty purple pink night when I started this painting. The fog rolled in and I could not see a thing. I thought I was done for the night, and started packing. When I turned around the fog was gone. I painted bundled up under an umbrella on a couple nights. It thought that 43 degrees was cold.

The closest large light globe was temperamental, it flickered on and off. It cooperated very kindly one night so that I could get it into the painting. Chestnut Plaza is in Upper Landing Park, in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

I felt lucky again when the lights on the University of Minnesota Centennial Showboat were lit. I rushed to get the colors on my palette ready, but the party ended to soon. I had to finish up the showboat from a camera shot.

This was my first outdoor nocturne. I felt very lucky when a train came by on my second night out, and stayed for several hours while I painted it.
